Bonus: Frankie hiking up to Song Oxalis cave

We slept in till around 8am. Our dreams of a restful night and a rest day appeared to be realising themselves. The hotel price included breakfast. Nothing fancy. We managed to secure a freshly made, egg and butter less, pancake. Sliced banana on top. Jonathan had to take his back for refrying. He can’t stand it when it’s not crispy.

What a dick…

We spent the day catching up with lots of different things. We overinflated one of the tyres on Frankie’s bike. Trying to stave off its demise a little longer. There was also various blogging to be done. We’d had no internet whatsoever in the jungle. It was actually blissful. We didn’t even think about it. Lastly, we were still dealing with the wake of our moronic Airbnb guest who’d left us a hilariously bad review.

The restaurant was definitely a family affair

We took a taxi to Phong Nha Family Restaurant for an early afternoon dinner. The taxi driver was scarily bad. He was staring at his phone to try and understand where he was going for most of the way. We were glad to arrive in one piece. There were a few vegan items to try. A braised Aubergine and tofu dish. Some vegetable patties and a banana blossom salad. It all came out bit by bit. If we didn’t share everything it would have been annoying.

Bonus 2: Water droplet hitting a stalagmite

The taxi driver home was much better. He immediately tried to teach us some Vietnamese. “How are you? I’m good, thank you.” That sort of thing. It was hard to learn anything in less than 5 minutes though.

We watched Race Across the World, the Four Seasons and Mo. Followed by Shield. We had a dragonfruit, a mango and some nuts and sweet treats. Our favourite was the peanut molasses with ginger, sandwiched within rice paper.

Pensive lounging

We didn’t know what the plan was for the next day. Often the forecast is wrong but we were expecting heavy rain from 3am and we weren’t sure when it would end. We were prepared to leave if it stopped early enough.

Bonus 3: Rocky climbs
